Patented circuitry within the light will reduce power to the LEDs, if they go beyond the optimum temperature, keeping the light as efficient as possible to maximise output and battery capacity. Once the light has cooled, the power is automatically restored.
Using a traffic light system remaining runtime is easily monitored at a glance so you’re not caught out. The colour feedback is also used for mode selection, before defaulting back to runtime.

The claimed output of some lights doesn’t seem to transfer to visibility on the road. There are cheaper lights claiming hundreds of lumens, but I would recommend this light over any other. I bought 2 and gave one to my son, so I have ridden behind (sometimes quite a way behind) his light and it has excellent visibility. Equally important is the knowledge that it is working, and this is a quality product that I can have faith in. I use it in pulse mode on the brightest setting and get at least 12 hours run time. It is expensive when comparing other lights if you just look at claimed output, but this light is worth the asking price.
